Cervical Cancer Symptoms

Cervical cancer typically develops slowly and may not cause any symptoms in its early stages. However, as the disease progresses, several symptoms might appear, including:

  • Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding: This is the most common symptom and can occur between periods, after sexual intercourse, or after menopause.
  • Unusual Vaginal Discharge: Increased vaginal discharge that may have a foul odor or contain blood.
  • Pelvic Pain: Pain during intercourse or at other times may be a symptom of advanced cervical cancer.
  • Pain During Urination: This can be associated with later stages of cervical cancer if it has spread to nearby tissues.
  • Leg Pain or Swelling: In advanced cases, the cancer may cause a blockage in the flow of blood or lymph fluid, leading to swelling and pain in the legs.
  • Weight Loss and Fatigue: General symptoms of cancer, such as unexplained weight loss and fatigue, might also occur.

If you persistently experience any of these symptoms, it's important to consult your healthcare provider as they can be caused by conditions other than cervical cancer. They can perform a thorough examination and, if necessary, order diagnostic tests or imaging studies to determine the cause of these symptoms. Regular screening through Pap tests and HPV testing is crucial for early detection, significantly improving successful treatment chances.
