Diagnosing neurofibromatosis typically involves a combination of clinical evaluation, imaging studies, and genetic testing.

Medical History

  • Family history of neurofibromatosis
  • Previous diagnoses or symptoms
  • Changes in hearing, vision, balance, or neurological function

Physical Examination

  • Evaluation of skin findings, including café-au-lait spots and neurofibromas
  • Neurological assessment
  • Hearing and vision evaluation

Imaging Studies

  • MRI scans to identify tumors affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nerves
