The Malignant Hematology Program at the GW Cancer Center provides advanced, comprehensive care for adults with cancers of the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. Our multidisciplinary team includes hematologist-oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, transplant specialists, nurses, and supportive care providers, all working together to create a personalized treatment plan for every patient.

We treat the full spectrum of malignant hematologic conditions, including:

  • Leukemias (acute and chronic)
  • Lymphomas (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin)
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
  • Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs)
  • Other rare blood cancers

Comprehensive and Coordinated Care

From diagnosis through survivorship, our program offers integrated care tailored to your needs. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools — including advanced molecular testing and genetic profiling — to ensure accurate diagnosis and guide therapy. Treatment options may include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplantation, or a combination of these approaches.

Our team coordinates closely with other GW Cancer Center specialists to address all aspects of care, including managing side effects, monitoring long-term health, and providing psychosocial support. Patients also have access to nurse navigators and supportive services to help with the emotional, nutritional, and practical challenges of cancer treatment.

Access to Innovative Therapies

As part of a leading academic medical center, the Malignant Hematology Program offers eligible patients access to clinical trials exploring new drugs, targeted agents, and cellular therapies. These trials may provide treatment options not yet available outside of research settings, offering hope for patients with difficult-to-treat or relapsed disease.

With an on-campus cellular therapy lab to process and store stem cells, the GW Cancer Center is uniquely positioned in the DC region to provide advanced and innovative care for our blood cancer patients. The cellular therapy program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).

The Malignant Hematology Program is vital to the GW Cancer Center’s educational and research efforts. It trains the next generation of hematologic specialists and develops new treatments through clinical trials and research.
