Nils and Faz Ahlgren are friends of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The fund has been created in memory of James D. Ahlgren, MD, a former GW oncologist and professor emeritus, whose compassion, ingenuity, and unwavering commitment to his patients inspired this gift. Support may be used for professional development activities, including but not limited to: scholarly presentations, participation in and travel to regional, national or international meetings, offsetting publication fees for manuscripts arising from oncology research, educational materials, and research-related expenses.
The next funding cycle will take place in the spring of 2027.
The endowed fund will provide awards for promising trainees pursuing careers related to medical oncology, in the following order of priority:
- Third-year residents intending to specialize in medical oncology
- Hematology/oncology fellows
- Residents in related subspecialties, such as radiation oncology or surgical oncology whose work relates to medical oncology, or
