Researcher Bio:

Dr. Lopez-Acevedo specializes in treatment of gynecologic cancers including radical and staging surgery for ovarian, peritoneal, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers. He also performs novel surgical techniques such as sentinel lymph node biopsy for uterine, cervical and vulvar cancers. In addition to surgery, his expertise includes administration of chemotherapy for gynecologic malignancies. His clinical interest includes robotic surgery, chemotherapy, genetics and sentinel lymph node biopsy for endometrial, cervical and vulvar cancer.

Dr. Lopez-Acevedo earned his bachelor's degree in Biological Science from University of Puerto Rico. He attended the University Of Puerto Rico School Of Medicine and graduated with Suma Cum Laude honors. He completed his residency in Ob-Gyn at Duke University. Subsequently, Dr. Lopez-Acevedo completed a Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at Duke University during which time he gained expertise in oncologic surgery as well as chemotherapy for gynecologic malignancies. He is interested in conducting clinical trials.

Dr. Lopez-Acevedo has published widely in the areas of gynecologic oncology, palliative and quality care. His research interests include quality of care and implementation of sentinel lymph node in the surgical treatment of gynecologic malignancies. He is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
