The GW Cancer Center is proud to announce that thoracic surgeon Sora Ely, MD, has been appointed as the Co-Chair of the DC Cancer Coalition, a pivotal organization dedicated to reducing the cancer burden in the District of Columbia.

Ely’s appointment marks a significant milestone in her career and underscores her commitment to advancing cancer care and prevention in the region. With a distinguished background in thoracic surgery, Ely has been instrumental in providing cutting-edge treatments for lung and other thoracic cancers. Her expertise and leadership at the GW Cancer Center have contributed to the center's reputation as a leading institution for comprehensive cancer care.

In her new role as Co-Chair of the DC Cancer Coalition, Ely will work alongside key stakeholders to drive initiatives that aim to improve cancer screening, education, and access to care. The coalition focuses on reducing cancer disparities, advocating for cancer prevention programs, and ensuring that patients from all communities receive equitable care. As Co-Chair, she will bring her clinical insights and passion for cancer prevention to spearhead programs that support early detection, community outreach, and innovative treatment approaches.
