The GW Cancer Center Training and Technical Assistance Program Launches New Website

Cancer Center Training Website

The George Washington (GW) University Cancer Center announced the launch of a new website, cancercontroltap.org, to serve comprehensive cancer control (CCC) professionals, coalitions and their partners. The development of this cancer control website was led by the GW Cancer Center Training and Technical Assistance Program (TAP), which is funded by a Cooperative Agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The GW TAP team, led by Dr. Mandi Pratt-Chapman, designs and implements comprehensive, high-quality training nationwide and provides technical assistance to CCC programs and their partners. The project supports programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, U.S. Associated pacific islands/territories, tribes, and tribal organizations. As part of the project, the Cancer Control TAP website provides a centralized library of resources, training and technical assistance on a variety of cancer-related topics.

While a previous GW TAP website housed similar resources, the need became clear for a more streamlined, user-friendly site that allows cancer control professionals to more easily search for, find, and utilize trusted and relevant CCC resources and events. Designed by award-winning marketing agency, Boombox, the optimized TAP website centralizes GW resources like the popular cancer awareness social media toolkits. The site also includes an enhanced search feature that connects users to relevant resources from trusted partners, such as evidence-based interventions and solutions from sites that GW TAP has vetted and whitelisted.

“While creating a more visual appealing site was a part of the process, the heart of the redesign was listening to our users and curating better search results from trusted partners and organizations for information in the cancer control field,” Dr. Pratt-Chapman explained. “There are a lot of guides, toolkits, events and resources for our audience across many different websites, so having this information easily searchable in one place was our goal.”

The new website, cancercontroltap.org, also offers educational resources specific to cancer coalitions and healthcare professionals including free on-demand training through the GW Online Learning Academy, where select courses offer continuing education credits for Certified Healthcare Education Professionals (CHES/MCHES), nurses (Nursing CEU), and social workers (NASW).
