Associate Professor at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at GW and GW Cancer Center member Kim Robien, PhD, RD, CSO, FAND, received the Distinguished Practice Award from the Oncology Nutrition practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on October 21st at the annual Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition in Washington, DC.
This award recognizes an outstanding Oncology Nutrition practice group member who has worked to promote nutrition as a vital component of oncology patient care through professional presentations, publications, involvement in other oncology related organizations.
In addition to authoring more than 100 peer-reviewed research publications primarily on diet and cancer, Dr. Robien chaired the first two editions of the Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) for Registered Dietitians in Oncology Nutrition Care, was an evidence analyst and working group member for the Oncology Nutrition Evidence-Based Practice Guidelines, and was the representative of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer from 2004 - 2010.
In 2016, she served as Vice Chair of the workshop planning committee for a National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (Food and Nutrition Board) workshop entitled, "Assessing Relationships between Access to Standardized Nutritional Care and Health Outcomes and Cost-Effectiveness of Care in Outpatient Cancer Centers". Dr. Robien is currently serving as a member of the American Cancer Society's Nutrition and Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Editorial Boards for the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Nutrition in Clinical Practice.
