Mandi L. Pratt-Chapman, PhD, associate center director for patient-centered initiatives and health equity at the George Washington University (GW) Cancer Center, recently attended the second National LGBTQ Cultural Competency Summit in Washington, D.C. The summit took place November 8 and 9 and was hosted by Whitman Walker Health and the National LGBT Cancer Network.

Pratt-Chapman has been an active collaborator with the National LGBT Cancer Network and also participated in the inaugural LGBTQ cultural competency summit in 2018. That summit generated a comprehensive document of proposed Best and Promising Practices for LGBTQ Cultural Competency Trainings. This year's summit was dedicated to revisiting the work of the previous year and incorporating feedback from community reviewers.

According to the National LGBT Cancer Network, no national standards or best practices for LGBTQ cultural competency currently exist. The experts convened for the event will continue developing a white paper and dissemination product to assist trainers in meeting the consensus-based LGBTQI cultural competency standards in the future.
